Immigrants beware of Rental Scams

Immigrant Visa Holders warned of property rental scam but could apply to any unsuspecting tenant .

Immigrants coming to the UK and looking for rental property have been warned to be very careful as there is a nationwide, but predominantly London based rental property scam going on

A National Association supporting UK landlords has warned foreigners seeking rental accommodation that on a classified ad website called Gumtree, prospective tenants are asked to email the ‘landlord’ whose details appear in the adverts for rental accommodation who then swap several emails back and fourth.

After a few emails they are then asked to send money to the ‘landlord’ after which they never hear from the landlord again.

We advise all prospective tenants that no matter where you are from, you should never send payment to advertisers before ensuring they are genuine.
